What Can I Do To Help My Child Support Situation

by Patrick
(Little Rock,AR,USA)

I was married to my ex wife and we separated and had two children during the marriage. My wife cheated on me and had the second child of which I doubted and so when we went to court I was originally ordered to pay support for both children because when she filed for the divorce she stated that there was no way that the second child could not be mine. I got the paternity test and paid for it out of my pocket and it was determined that this child was not mine. The judge then ordered that I only pay for my son and I was to pay $97 a week which is deducted from my check. I have never missed a payment since ordered to pay however child support is saying that I owe 1250 for back pay and then there is a additional 1,800 or so and child support cannot give me a explanation on why I owe all this money.

In the divorce the judge handled everything and he never once said anything about back pay. I called and requested a review of my case and was supposed to get a call back from child support within 48 hours and it’s been 2 weeks and I have heard nothing. My hands at this point are tied and I do not know what to do. I have no money to pay for a lawyer and feel at this point this is my only point. I love my son and will do anything for him I do not mind paying the money for him but I want my name cleared because this is on my credit report and I cannot get any answers.

The Right Program For You
by: Child Support America Team Member

Hello Patrick,

We hear this kind of story often, and it does happen in the child support system. We are starting a low cost Child Support America VIP membership program to help individuals like yourself. We receive tons of emails from people who are having the same problems that you are having. People are not receiving phone calls back from their case workers and things of that nature.

As a VIP member, we will help you navigate through the system when you are running into roadblocks like you mentioned in your post. Feel free to read some information about our VIP membership service, by clicking on the VIP Memberships button on your left. The program is coming soon, but there will only be a limited number of memberships available. If you are interested, be sure to sign up to be notified by using the contact form on that page.

Thanks,
CSA STAFF
