Tennessee And Another Open Child Support Case

I am the non-custodial parent and I currently reside in FL. My children have been with custodial parent since 1997. A child support order was established in Ohio at that time. Since then, I have paid them on time, as ordered. Custodial parent has moved (first to Arizona, then Tennessee) since that establishment, and created child support orders in each state, claiming non-payment, instead of transferring the case to that state. Now, I have had numerous collection calls, letters, and harrassment on my job from these collectors, and it's rediculous! I wrote several letters to the secondry states, letting them know about the situation, to no avail, until about a year ago. Arizona finally acknowledged their mistake, and forwarded all credits (taken from my tax-offsets) to the original state of Ohio. I have appealed to Tennessee, but they have ignored my requests and demands. I have an upcoming appeal on May 24th, which has to be done by phone due to my inability to be there in person. Meanwhile, Ohio has a credited balance for the child, and if Tennessee had transferred the order, instead of creating their own, Tennessee would have to acknowledge their mistake as well, and the credit would be more than enough to be paid in full, past the child's 18th birthday.
In essence, I believe that if there is a current Child Support order in place, it would be wise of the courts not to establish another, and perhaps look into the facts of each case before them. I feel I have been put through pure torture, as I have been labeled a "dead-beat parent", and I am not! I have been embarrased at work, harrassed on the phone at home, and all because of incompetence on behalf of the Tennessee Child Support system.

Child Support

Thank you for sharing. It is illegal to purposefully open multiple child support cases and trying to abuse the system. It can be difficult to prove. However, interstate cases are legal. This is when two states work together to ensure child support is paid. Your situation requires some legal attention. We have a great legal plan within our V.I.P. membership. Do you owe any back support?

no back support owed

no - in fact, I have credits on each case, to be applied by the Child Support Administration in Ohio (sccse). That being said, Since Tennessee shows me being behind, so they garnished my wages at my most recent job.

Victory is mine!

Today, we had our court hearing in Tennessee, and the Tennessee Child Support officer FINALLY acknowledged the monies paid to Ohio and Ohio's case for the child. They show my account as no longer in arrears, and are closing the case immediately - YAY!!! And it only took 3years, 23 pages of letters written to them, numerous hours spent on the phone with them, a phone call to Ohio from them, and a court hearing. And I can finally say, "I am NOT a dead-beat parent!" Thanks for your support!
