Tax Return Intercepted Refund Amount Exceeds Arrears

My tax refund has been intercepted for arrears in the state of North Carolina. I have two children and two cases. The arrears for both cases combined are roughly $3800. The IRS sent all of my tax refund money to Child Support. I am entitled to at least over $3000 of what was sent to Child Support, which was roughly $7000 in tax refunds. I don't mind paying the arrears. In fact, I longed for the day that they would get nipped in the bud. However, I need the money that I am entitled to. Please help.

Thanks for your question. What happens with an offset is that they offset the entire amount and then will send you the rest. This can take several months. Have you contacted the IRS?

I contacted the IRS but they actually referred me to the child support agency. I contacted child support and its just as you stated. They will take what is owed and send me the rest. Thanks.
