Scared to Marry - Indiana

by Sara
(Indianapolis, IN USA)

My boyfriend is (as I am finding out) owes a lot of debt. Garnishments, Judgments and back child support. He is currently paying on all of this but I'm am afraid that if we marry what debt is his will become mine. I make twice as much money as he does and though money shouldn't rule the relationship I'm pregnant now and not sure how he will/can afford to care for this family if he is unable to care of his own debt. I have very little debt beside student loans, a mortgage and car. However, I find this to be "typical debt" that one should owe. I would love to marry and have a family with him but I am not willing to put myself in his debt and find myself later having to assist him in paying it off.... Or ordered to for that matter.
