Not One Child Support Payment In 8 Years

by Brooke L
(Massillon, Ohio, USA)

Hi I am the mother of a wonderful 8 1/2 year old boy. His father signed the birth certificate but has done virtually nothing since. He has given me about 30 dollars cash and has taken his son maybe 5 times. He also has 4 other boys with 3 other girls (mine is the oldest). He has never shown up to court or returned any paper work therefore, he was ordered $62.50 a month in Feb 02. He has never made a payment and child support has done nothing but take his DL away. He does work as a "sub-contractor" so child support says he is responsible to take it out himself which of course he doesn't. It has been to the legal department before and is in the process of going again but nothing is ever done for every reason...they don't have an address, the mail wasn't pick up, he is in jail...I am just at my wits end...my son cries because he don't understand why his dad doesn't love him and I cry because it is so unfair that he is allowed to do whatever he wants and not pay for his children.

Hang in there

Hello Brook,

Thank you for your story, and we are very sorry for the non-payment of child support. We hear these stories often, and they are always very dis-heartening.

Try to see if your local CSE office has a parent locating service to help you to find his whereabouts. Also hang in there for your son because he needs you to remain strong.

Also, if you ever need counseling, coaching or mentoring, there is a wonderful organization in Stark County called the Soul Care Center. They also offer a program to help low income families and single moms break the cycle of poverty. It's called the "One Family At A Time Program". They can be reached at 330.312.1568. Be sure to leave your number and ask for Ingrid.

Take care and contact us anytime via this post.
