Need Modification But Dont Live In State Of Current Order

by Agatha
(Charlotte, NC)

I have child support orders in place in Riverside, CA. I moved to Charlotte, NC 5 years ago. My x husband now lives in TX. The last time we modified was when he lost his job and I never modified after that. The child support orders are for $340.00 a month. He does give me $600.00 a month. He now makes $100,000 a year and I need to modify the orders again. I have a 12 and 14 year old boys and $600 a month is not enough for them. I had been directed in several different directions. Where or what do I need to do to get the orders modified?

Thank you,

Agatha Ochoa

Dear Agatha,

Thanks for your question. You will need to request a modification in the state where your child support order is enforced. Contact your caseworker and request the modification forms. Be sure to inform your caseworker about all of the states involved because you actually may be required to open a new case in the state you reside in. How long has it been since your last modification?
