Need Child Support Questions Answered Please

by Heather
(Sedalia, MO.)

My son's father is a drug felon and still does the drugs. He was supposed to pay $276 a month child support, by court ordered, back in August of 2009. He will not get a job and he is in hiding at the moment. How much back pay does he have until the state picks him up to go to prison?

Dear Heather,

We appreciate your question. Every state is different, but there is a process concerning arrearages and jail time. There is not a set amount that back support must reach before they will put him in jail. However he will have to go through the process and eventually will serve jail time if he fails to pay his support.

Do you have any new information about your ex to give to your caseworker such as a new phone number, address?
