Moved from Florida to Arizona

The father moved to Arizona some years back. The mother then decided to move to Arizona so that the kids could be closer to their father. The father is not paying child support, and helps with day care once in a while. The mother cannot support the children without the child support awarded by the state of Florida! My question is what actions does the mother need to take in order to receive the child support the court awarded her? Thank you.

Hello Keith,

We thank you for your question. Since the original child support order is in the state of Florida then that is who the mother must deal with.

The first issue would be to contact her caseworker at the Child Support Office and ask that the case be looked into. She must inform them that he is not paying AND ask that either his license be suspended, passport be revoked, income taxes offset and also that a lien be placed on any property and/ or bank accounts.

It is also important that you inform the caseworker in Florida that he now lives in Arizona. Florida may wish to involve Arizona in the collection of the child support order. This is not uncommon for two states to be involved. Sometimes it can work out to your advantage. We wish you well and keep us updated!
