Montana Laws For Arrears And Passports

by scott
(Montana)

I was laid off for a period of time and fell into arrears. I have since been back to work and paying support. The order is in place to garnish wages and an added amount for the arrears. I desire a passport to travel to Canada. My current amount is below $2500 am I eligible or is Montana a zero tolerance state?

Child Support Questions
by: Child Support America Staff

Hello Scott!

According to the U.S. Department of State's website "If you owe $2,500 or more in child support, you are not eligible to receive a U.S. passport." There is nothing stated that any other state is different then that. It applies for the entire U.S. So if you are under that amount you may be fine. You can always apply and see what happens.

Thanks
