Modify a Child Support Order From Another State

by Candace H.
(Atlanta, GA)

I have been divorced for 3 and 1/2 years. Our divorce decree is in the Commonwealth of KY. I live in GA while my ex lives in TX. I requested to modify the original order which determined that our 2 daughters were to receive $1,239.52. I only asked for $911 to help with daycare. I am able to request a child support review; however, I am living in GA. I spoke with a KY representative who stated that I would have to go through GA since neither of us reside in KY.

I want to be sure that the child support review is based on the same terms as KY. I also want to be sure that I do NOT have to wait another 3 years for the order to be reviewed.

My ex was transferred to TX and has since had 1, possibly, 2 more children out of wedlock. My financial situation has drastically changed following the divorce. I am presently receiving food assistance for our children. What is the likelihood that the order will be reviewed and that the support may be lowered?

Thank you, in advance!
