Lost child support check found

by Fred
(Indiana)

Seven years ago, I was paying child support with personal checks from my checking account. At that time, my ex-wife lost one of those checks and I immediately issued her a new check to replace the lost one.

She recently found this old check and even showed it to me (she wouldn't hand it over). She is now demanding that I write her a new check to replace the check she found. Obviously she doesn't recall the events that occured 7 years ago and she feels she is entitled to more money.

I looked through my old bank records and found a canceled check that I believe to be the reissued check, which she cashed 7 years ago. Our relationship is strained and I am wondering what my rights and options are on this matter?

Of note, for the last 4 years, I have been paying child support through the court system and I am not in arears on child support. Any advice would be appreciated.
