Is There Any Hope For Me To Pay Back Child Support

I have 2 children by different mothers who all live in Arkansas. I have lived in Florida the past 10 years. I have had trouble keeping a job, but when i have had a job I paid to the best of my ability. The total past due is now approaching 100,000. I am unemployed and I have kidney cancer. The state of Florida has suspended my driver's license. I have gotten traffic tickets twice, once while looking for a job and one for going to a doctor's appt. I have to go to court for these. I can't work until my kidney surgery recovery is complete. I can't find a job after without a license. I own nothing of value. I feel like I have no options. Is there any help for me?

Yes there is hope
by: Child Support America Team Member

There is always hope. In the state of Florida the amount of child support is based on certain guidelines. One being the income of BOTH parents. You currently have no income and considering your poor health you would need to apply for a modification. Keeping in mind the severity of your arrearages and the amount continues to build, you should consider hiring an attorney to remedy this situation for you. We recommend that you call your caseworker or a supervisor in charge at your local Child Support office to have other options discussed with you. There may be some type of medical modification for your circumstance. We wish you well not only with your current child support situation but more importantly with your health. Have you asked the mothers if they would consider possibly waiving any back support?
