I Owe Back Child Support Due To Being In Jail

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW I CAN GET INTO COURT BECAUSE I OWE BACK SUPPORT. THIS IS BECAUSE, I WAS IN JAIL THE LAST 10 YEARS OF MY LIFE. I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START, AND WHEN I CALL I GET THE RUN AROUND. I DON'T SEEM TO GET ANYWHERE. I NEED HELP TO GET MY LIFE BACK ON TRACK. CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT WITH SOME INFORMATION?

Hi Justin,

First off, welcome back home. I know your situation is frustrating, but there is hope. I recommend you contact your case worker first and get a copy of your records. They must give them to you.

I would then, try to get a modification if you are not working. The biggest thing you can do, is Pay something on your child support every month. Even if it's only $10 a month. This shows good faith and can help you down the line.

You may also need to file a motion with courts to speak with a judge. You can do this yourself, if your situation is not complicated. I also recommend you check out our legal help page. We provide an affordable legal service if you need an attorney.
