How Do I Establish Paternity For Deceased Father Of Child

by Melissa Davis
(Indianapolis, In.)

Recently found out my child's father has passed away. I have not established paternity yet. His family wants a D.N.A test. They believe my daughter should be getting his Social Security Benefits. What or how do I get this done?

Contact Social Security

Hello Melissa,

Thanks you for your question and we are sorry for the passing of your child's father. We suggest that you first contact the social security administration in your area. Ask them for the procedures of doing paternity on a person who is now deceased. Let them know it's for the purpose of collecting benefits for your daughter.

If they do not provide a service to get this done you may have to hire a private firm to conduct the DNA test.

Thanks again, and contact us anytime via this post.
