Father lied about being on medicaid

I contacted to friend of the court to start child support and visitation for my son who is 18 months. So far we have been getting along and doing things on our own, but this has changed. When i contacted friend of the court, they told me the father applied for medicaid for himself and our child and said he was the custodial parent. he lives with me and see's his father 1 or 2 days a week on average. The friend of the court told me there was nothing i could do and i needed to hire a lawyer. i have very low income and can not hire a lawyer at this time and need some help and advise. thank you!
