Collecting Back Child Support From My Father

My father left before I was even born, and because my mom was only seventeen and upset she refused to put him on my birth certificate and never went after him for child support for fear that he would try to get visitation or custody of me. I met him when I was seventeen and tried to build some kind of relationship. He sent me $200.00 per month for 9 months while I was in college in 2005, but we had a falling out and he cut me off. Now I am trying to get back into school and have asked him to help me again. I'm worried that he will turn me down. Is there anything I can do to force him to help me?
