Child Support Lowered Due To Driving Distance

by Kevin
(Eatlake, Ohio)

I drive 124 miles per week to pick up my kids. Can the amount of money spend on gas lower my child support payments?

What You Can Do
by: Child Support America Team Member

Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your question. This is definitely a question that you would need to talk to an attorney about. You can have it "court ordered" that your ex meets you equal the distance when picking up the children. We also recommend that you speak to your caseworker about your mileage. You may be able to request a modification and include the mileage. Did you move away from the children and is that why you currently drive this far for your visits?
