Child Support Did Not Go Through Courts

by Jessica
(Alabama)

My husband's child support was issued from him directly to his ex-wife. He does owe some back support and in July she turned him over to the Child Support Office. I received a letter today stating that he is $1500.00 behind. I guess this is what she told them, but who can say who is right or wrong if it didn't go through the courts. I am going to contest the amount, but need some advice on what to do. This is in the State of Mississippi.

Child Support Questions
by: CSA STAFF

Hi Jessica!

If the ex is going through the system now a court date should be issued. Make sure your husband attends the hearing so that he can contest those charges. You may try to contact the child support office where the case is open and find out if a hearing has been scheduled.

Thanks
