Can Back Child Support Be Forgiven In Viginia

by Mike Ayers
(Virginia)

I owe approx $53,000 in arrears, due to unfortunate circumstances. I was laid off in December of 2008, and have been collecting unemployment since. I have been paying between $150 and $300 a month since then. My family has offered the other party a sum of $10,000 settlement to forgive my arrears and bring me to current status. Child support has now advised me they are taking me back to court, and that’s why my parents made the offer to her. Does she have the ability to forgive my arrears in the state of Virginia?

Thank You

Don't See Why Not

We don't see why your child support can't be forgiven in the state of Virginia. Keep in mind that Virginia is a Commonwealth state, so we recommend that you check around just to be sure. You can contact your case worker or the courts. You can also ask a child support attorney as well.

If you move forward with this, we recommend that you do this via the courts. Our question to you is: Has your ex agreed to take the offer. You can respond through this post.

Since she has agreed you should contact an attorney and move forward on this fast. Again if you need legal help, check out our VIP Memberships page.
