Am I Obligated To Pay For Childcare
by Thomas Austin
(Utah)
I pay about $100 over what is required per our divorce decree as minimum child support for the state of Utah to my wife. Recently she has begun threatening to take me to court for childcare payments that she claims I am not currently making. The problem is that cost of childcare is in no way addressed in the divorce decree. I have called the courts and they say that if it is not in the decree nor is it in some separate agreement (and there is no separate agreement), then I am not obligated. I need to know what my options are. She is threatening to hold me responsible for the court cost also. Please help. I would like to know what my options are. I need to know if it would make sense to hire a lawyer to deal with this for me. Thanks!
